Was slavery the cause of the American revolution?

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Slavery was not the active cause of the American Revolution. It played a passive role in it. The American Revolution took place between 1775 and 1783. Slavery was not a problem at that time as the American Colony whose economy depended on hand-picked crops like tobacco and cotton could not have survived without it. It was when the British government became too demanding that the leaders of the colonies organised themselves against their overlords and rebelled. This led to war and the British were eventually defeated with the help of the the French and expelled. As for slavery, many of the American leaders and heroes, such as Washington and Jefferson, were in fact slave owners themselves, and so were hardly likely to fight against it.

What is the best and cheapest phone service?

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

The cheapest and the best phone service is one that offers phone and internet as a package. Digital phone are good enough. Traditional landlines use copper lines. Although, a broadband provider with your DSL is usually more expensive than the VoIP provider, but it will give you better customer service and installation.

If you choose any other VoIP provider make sure you get good customer service and tech support. Also check online the E911 service. It is 1.99 dollar a month now. Be aware of all the VoIP-reviews as they change every few months.

What is the exact meaning of the p value in the chi square test

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Chi-square is a statistical test commonly used to compare observed data with the data you would expect to obtain according to a specific hypothesis. Usually, when looking at a Chi-Squared test you are using the assumption of 95% confidence, or an alpha value of .05, that is where your 0.05 comes from. If you get a value of 0.04 or 4%, you can say one of two things: a) You accept the hypothesis. b) The null hypothesis is valid through 96% confidence or an alpha level of 0.04.

Black and whites or half moon cookies are common on the East Coast. Black and white cookies are in-between a cookie and a cake. They were named Black and white as half of the cookie is iced with chocolate fudge and the other half has vanilla icing. They cost about $1.45 each. They taste awesome.

If someone is murdered at sea in international waters

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

If murder takes place at sea in international waters then interpol would be involved in that case. The country under which flag the ship is sailing has the right to try the murderer. The captain of the ship would be entitled to arrest whomsoever he finds or suspects to be guilty. The country’s police would also be involved and the murderer would be tried in that country.

Slow but not dumb

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

You should talk to your professors and the appropriate administration as soon as possible. You may also want to be tested to explore the chances that you have a learning disability. Depending on the results, you may want to consider taking two or three college courses as opposed to four or five. The most important thing to remember is that this should not discourage you from following your goals and dreams.

Your parents can request a 504 meeting to see if you qualify for 504 plan.  The 504 plan or an IEP plan is a legal document stating what your problems are and what the school is going to do about them.
The bad thing is, these type of programs in schools are corrupt and your parents will have to learn the laws and the legal process about 504 and fight the school to get you help.

You can log on to www.schwablearning.org and sign up for free to post on their ‘parent to parent’ message board. You should be able to get lots of help from it.

What does the Olympic torch mean/represent

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

By tradition, the Olympic flame is ignited during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. In Olympia (Greece), a flame was ignited by the sun and then kept burning until the closing of the Olympic Games. The flame first appeared in the modern Olympics at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam.

The flame itself represents a number of things. It symbolizes purity and the endeavor for perfection. In 1936, the chairman of the organizing committee Olympic Games, Carl Diem, suggested to start the Olympic Torch relay. The Olympic flame is lit at the ancient site of Olympia by eleven women wearing ancient-style robes and using a curved mirror and the sun. The Olympic Torch is then passed from runner to runner from the ancient site of Olympia to the Olympic stadium in the hosting city. The flame is then kept alight throughout the Games. It represents a continuation from the ancient Olympic Games to the modern Olympics.
